Why Should Golf Be an Expensive Sport?

Golf is expensive for many reasons: firstly, if you prefer to get good golf clubs, they could easily price from $700 and upwards. Secondly, the green is also expensive, particularly if you wish to play a well recognized course. For instance, Pebble Beach can be up to $600 for eighteen holes. Thirdly, if you would like to join a local Country Club that can be pricey because they usually carry an initiation as well as monthly fees.

Fourthly, if you wish to become an ample golfer, you will probably take courses on a regular basis, especially during the early stage. Fifthly, a younger golf player who wants to go after the game and play in college and so forth, needs to play in many national tournaments to get acknowledged. These tournaments can easily sum up to one thousand and up a week. Other reasons like golf balls, cart fees (if you want to take them), clothes and gadgets can add up the cash outlay really fast.

However, the main reason why golf games are so expensive is that game is played on a vast piece of property; some more expensive than others. Huge amount of money was spent to build them, and yet a whole lot more to maintain and for upkeep purpose. Expensive equipment and specialists are employed to manage these golf projects. If you put them together and it is easy to realize that huge investment is needed to keep it going. For example, in Nevada, water is something that is not just on tap and very unlimited. To have water to run in the golf course in that region, you can imagine that is not cheap a hobby. No other sport exist where you can start at any age and play till you can barely walk anymore, be competitive and play where the pros play.

In summary, the golf equipment is expensive in today's economy. Besides, the golf course is built on prime real estate property. Furthermore, the cost of maintaining a golf course very high. Prices are not going up, courses are afraid to raise cost due to economy. Same applies to equipment companies. It helps to be rich, but the average person could afford one round a month. Finally, two things any golfers really need are time and money. A golf game usually takes 4 hours to play, you also have to drill striking balls a lot of times a week, ideally. And if you really care it you should join a private golf-club, because common courses can get really jammed. Good clubs are expensive as are shoes and good golf balls. Golf game can be extremely entertaining and addictive too.

Disc Golf, the Sport That is Sweeping the Nation

Expert Author Thor Hanso

Disc golf is a sport that has been growing in popularity ever since the invention of the sport in the late 1960's. The sport has grown to over 3,000 courses in the US and another 3,000 globally. This underground sport that many people have never heard of is a fun game that many people are starting to play.

Disc golf is a game that is played very similarly to regular golf, however, instead of using a ball you use discs. The objective is the same as regular golf in the fact that you tee off from a tee-pad and shoot for a hole.

However, instead of using a hole like in regular golf the hole is a basket. The basket consists of hanging chains with a basket at the bottom. Your goal is to hit the chains and have the disc land in the basket. As in ball golf you keep track of your scores and are trying to record the lowest score possible.

Just like ball golf you have different clubs or discs for different situations. The three most frequent discs you throw are you driver, mid-range which is like a 7-iron in ball golf and your putter. Each disc, just as in golf, is easier to control and more accurate with the putter being the easiest disc golf use.

How To Get My Winning Golf Picks for the Entire 2013 Season! Last year $100 bettors won over $16,000!

The greatest thing about disc golf is that most courses are free to play. You simply have to bring your own discs. This makes it a very affordable and fun game for the average individual while ball golf is much more restrictive with their high green fees. Some courses are placed on personal property and these courses usually charge a nominal fee which is much less than any ball golf course.

If you're just starting out with disc golf it is recommended that you simply buy a mid-range disc. These discs are much easier to throw and control than the drivers. Furthermore, mid-range discs are much easier to work your technique than a driver. This is due to the stability and rim-size of the disc. A few suggestions of discs to consider are the Millennium Element, Innova Roc or Innova Shark. These are a very good beginners disc and can be used for drives and puts the same.

In ball golf the professional association that is associated is the PGA in disc golf the association is the PDGA.
The PDGA oversees the sport in the US and governs the community. In fact, they help coordinate the world disc golf championship and the US disc golf championship. Both of these events are premier events similar to a "Masters" tournament in ball golf. If you are wondering who the Tiger Woods of the sport is then look no further than David Feldberg. The Jack Nicklaus of the sport would be Ken Climo. Both players are considered at the top of the sport and have made many DVD's teaching the game.

Disc golf has been featured on a few televisions and movies and will only increase in popularity as the years go on. Get yourself a disc and find your nearest course to see exactly what you're missing!

Outdoor Sports Enthusiasts Are Flipping Out Over Disc Golf

Expert Author John Waren
I am an outdoor entertainment enthusiast. The way I see it, the outdoors were created for our pleasure. Houses are important for many necessities of life, not the least of which is a roof over our head and protection from the elements. I find, however, that there is an endless supply of fun outdoor entertainment options. While sitting around the fire pit the other night, my son introduced me to the sport of Disc Golf. I had not even heard of it until he mentioned it. I did a bit of research and find it to be a fantastic outdoor entertainment activity with soaring popularity.

How To Get My Winning Golf Picks for the Entire 2013 Season! Last year $100 bettors won over $16,000!

When it comes to the topic of disc golf, there are several interesting points to consider. First, there is the history of the sport itself, from its invention in the 1960's to its growth into a current popular pastime. Second, is the accessible nature of the courses themselves, with a diversity of options conveniently available. To help discover what this exciting game has to offer, let's examine these categories in further detail.
Flying objects have taken a prominent place throughout human history, and they were first used as weapons for hunting and warfare. Experts believe cavemen used rocks as projectiles, which gave them the ability to kill animals at safer distances. People later honed this technology, using deadly accurate slingshots made from animal sinews and skin. Spears eventually made their way onto the scene, and these were even better for long distance warfare. Over time, as the need for hunting for survival decreased, the challenge of throwing objects with accuracy evolved into a competition instead. Warriors eventually began throwing their shields, and this is how the discus event came to be included in the Olympic Games.
The modern sport of disc golf has its roots in these beginnings, but has added some unique twists which make it endless fun. Before its official creation in the late 60's, some isolated groups developed similar games, but these were short lived and rudimentary in nature. Some examples include a group of Rice

University students in 1964 that sponsored a tournament using Frisbees as the discs and trees for the targets. Another instance occurred in Pendleton King Park located in Georgia, which followed a similar blueprint. Frisbees were thrown at large trash cans placed throughout the park, which served as the targets. The most organized attempt occurred in 1960, when the commercial firm of Copar Plastics produced Sky Golf, a kit which customers purchased to play the game. However, the Frisbee craze hadn't reached a boiling point yet, and the product did not succeed.

Disc golf was successfully championed by two different men, who worked independently of one another. They are George Sappenfield and "Steady Ed" Headrick, and these are both responsible for creating disc golf as we know it today. How did they do so? The first to kick off the movement was George Sappenfield, who was a working as a counselor at a summer camp in 1965. He invented the game as an event for his campers, and set up a course for them which used objects such as trees, signs and utility poles as targets. He called his new game "Basket Frisbee." It quickly became popular with the kids and he decided to make it available to a wider audience in 1968. Once he graduated from the university he'd been attending, he became the Parks and Recreation Supervisor in Thousand Oaks, California. He was responsible for community sports, and he offered a disc golf tournament to the general public. This first effort was backed by the Wham-O Corporation, who donated Frisbees for players to use and Hula Hoops for the targets. Over time its popularity caught on, and others began constructing courses all over the nation. One of the most well-known examples of this is disc golf's introduction to the UC Berkeley campus, which become such a craze that an official field was soon constructed.
The second man to shape the face of modern disc golf was "Steady Ed" Headrick, who worked for the

Wham-O Corporation. He is credited with inventing the modern day Frisbee while employed there and took the Pluto Platter, some believe was originally a dog toy, and engineered it for better performance. He loved the flight characteristics of this simple "toy," and he saw potential in it for organized sports. It was Headrick who developed the first disc golf target, which he termed the Disc Pole Hole & trade; and he equated it with the holes used by regular golf. It worked by hanging ten chains above an open basket - when the disc struck the chains it lost its momentum, and was caught in the "hole" below. He originally created this product to stop disputes by his friends over whether the target had been successfully struck, and to make the game play more enjoyable. It was first used in Oak Grove Park in Pasadena, California and it quickly become popular. It was Headrick who went on to found the International Frisbee Association or IFA, the first of its kind.

Because of his contributions to the sport in general, he is widely regarded as the father of disc golf today.
The next area of consideration is the diversity of courses currently available. Since its creation in the late 60's, disc golf has steadily grown in popularity. Due to the high demand for this sport, many excellent courses have been established all over the nation. In fact, there are now nearly 3,000 courses offered in the United States alone, with an additional 3,000 available worldwide. Disc golf has spread into over 40 countries, and is found in distant locations such as Australia, Japan, and Europe as well.
If you are a disc golf enthusiast, or simply a lover of outdoor entertainment, there is almost certainly a course nearby your home. Most mid-size cities have a disc golf course of their own and many small communities include one as well. Some top-rated examples include Flip City disc Golf Park in Shelby, Michigan which has the reputation for extreme elevation changes. Amazingly, Bill McKenzie built it all on his own, and he maintains it to this present day. Blueberry Hill in Highbridge, Wisconsin also has excellent reviews and it boasts spectacular views of the Chequamegon National Forest while playing. It includes several ponds which act as a hazard, and the wooded portion makes for a truly challenging game. A third course, which is one of the top in the nation, is Idlewild located in Burlington, Kentucky. It offers a professional level of play, with a good variety of challenges in the landscape throughout. It has a full eighteen holes, which wind their way through the beautiful rolling hills.
So, in conclusion, from the history of this excellent sport to the available courses offered today, disc golf is a fascinating topic. It is fun to play and with an astonishing array of courses around the nation, you have access to many more options than ever before. It is simple to learn but takes a lifetime to master, and can offer you a unique challenge each time you step onto the course. It is an excellent opportunity to get out of the house, get a bunch of buddies and enjoy the great outdoors. Being the outdoors kind of guy that I am, I can't think of a better way to end a day of disc golf than to invite my buddies over to the house, stoke up a fire in the patio bonfire pit, crack open a few of our favorite beverages and reminisce the day's events.

Mental Toughness in Sport, Golf, Life, May Be A Load Of Rubbish!

Expert Author Mark H Wright
We hear the phrase "become mentally tougher" or similar a lot of times don't we? In fact I read and hear about it so much I'm almost tired of it. Heck I probably use it myself too often, it's become really clichéd hasn't it?

The thing is, it may not be true.

What happens when someone says you need to become mentally tougher?

Well for starters the first thing it implies is that you are mentally too weak to compete at that particular level. After all, if you are told you must become tougher to win on tour then it means you are currently too weak to win on tour, right?

Do you like being called mentally weak? I know I don't! Perhaps we Sports Psychologists should think about that?

I really don't like the inference that a person's mind is weak. I doubt very much that the problem is a weak mind. The reason the golfer (or anyone) is underperforming in a certain area is probably just a matter of mind control.
Let's rule out experience first and presume that's not the issue. After all if you have no experience of being in a certain situation then you may well fail to achieve your best. That's not mentally weak it's just a lack of experiential knowledge.

Take Rory who blew the Masters. Was he mentally weak? No, he wasn't ready, but he learned from that experience and came right back to claim his first major. Strength from experience.

So if we presume a player has experience but keeps blowing it, then it's a matter of mind control. NOT
 WEAKNESS!

How To Get My Winning Golf Picks for the Entire 2013 Season! Last year $100 bettors won over $16,000!

The mind and body are one system, they work together not as separate units. If your body is experiencing a problem, like poor nutrition or dehydration, then the mind will suffer and be unable to perform at peak levels. Severe enough nutritional deficiencies or dehydration will lead to a real breakdown in thinking.

If the body posture is one of defeat, anger, frustration or any other negative, this WILL HAVE AN IMPACT on your thinking and emotions.

If the mind is not controlled and allowed to think poorly, then it has a direct effect on emotions, mood and most certainly on physical performance.

You are not mentally weak. You must learn to control what you can, both body and mind. Feed your mind and body properly with good nutrition and hydration, control your body postures and keep them HEAD UP POSITIVE.

Be aware of what thoughts are running through your mind and if you know they are negative and unhelpful, CHANGE THEM! Distract yourself, and then think of things that get you balanced again.

As you learn and become more proficient at Mind and Body Control, people will begin to call you Mentally Tough, but that's OK, we'll excuse them as we practice Mind Control Golf.

The Origin Of Golf

Golf is a sport in which individual players or teams of players strike a ball into a hole using several types of clubs. Golf is one of the few ball games that does not use a fixed, standardized playing field or area; defined in the Rules of Golf as "playing a ball with a club from the teeing ground into the hole by a stroke or successive strokes in accordance with the Rules.

Golf
Golf is a very old game of which the exact origins are unclear. Golf is played in an area of land designated a golf course. Golf courses have not always had eighteen holes. The first game of golf for which records survive was played at Bruntsfield Links, in Edinburgh, Scotland, in A. The word golf was first mentioned in writing in 1457 on a Scottish statute on forbidden games as gouf, possibly derived from the Scots word goulf (variously spelled) meaning "to strike or cuff". But there is an even earlier reference to the game of golf and it is believed to have happened in 1452 when King James II banned the game because it kept his subjects from their archery practice.

How To Get My Winning Golf Picks for the Entire 2013 Season! Last year $100 bettors won over $16,000!

The origin of golf is open to debate as to being Chinese, Dutch or Scottish. However, the most accepted golf history theory is that this sport originated from Scotland in the 1100s. A game somewhat similar to golf was first mentioned in Dōngxuān Records (Chinese: 東軒錄), a Chinese book of 11th Century. However, modern golf is considered to be a Scottish invention, as the game was mentioned in two 15th century laws prohibiting the playing of the game of gowf. Some scholars have suggested that this refers to another game which is more akin to modern shinty, hurling or field hockey than golf.

Golf
The word golf derives from the Dutch kolf meaning stick, club or bat. There are reports of even earlier accounts of golf from continental Europe. The oldest playing golf course in the world is The Old Links at Musselburgh Racecourse. Evidence has shown that golf was played on Musselburgh Links in 1672 although Mary, Queen of Scots reputedly played there in 1567. As early as the 15th century, golfers at St Andrews, in Fife, established a customary route through the undulating terrain, playing to holes whose locations were dictated by topography. The major changes in equipment since the 19th century have been better mowers, especially for the greens, better golf ball designs, using rubber and man-made materials since about 1900, and the introduction of the metal shaft beginning in the 1930s. Also in the 1930s the wooden golf tee was invented.

In 2005 Golf Digest calculated that there were nearly 32,000 golf courses in the world, approximately half of them in the United States. The countries with most golf courses in relation to population, starting with the best endowed were: Scotland, New Zealand, Australia, Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Canada, Wales, United States, Sweden, and England (countries with fewer than 500,000 people were excluded).
